Take one crane, some kind of board, a parachute, and someone slightly mad, and you get the above!! Want to find something a little closer to home, and maybe a little less dangerous: check out SFDO’s UK activities.
Hungarian priest gets on skateboard to connect

A Hungarian Catholic priest who spreads God’s word from a skateboard has become an internet sensation
“A video of the Reverend Zoltan Lendvai, 45, in action has attracted almost 170,000 hits on YouTube.
The video, Funny Priest Skateboarding, shows Rev Lendvai, clad in full clerical garb, displaying his moves.
It is not clear whether the reverend has mastered the nose-grind or the kick-flip, but his skills have helped attract young people to his church.
Rev Lendvai, whose first board bore the papal coat of arms, believes skateboarding can pave the way to God for young people.
He says his distinctive method of spreading the word on wheels is inspired by Saint John Bosco. The 19th century Italian priest and teacher dedicated his life to improving the lot of poor young people, using games as part of their education.”

Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut is the film “Whip It”, a comedic action film, which has received a good rating on IMDB also, is based around a teenage girls desire to no longer be a misfit, but to join an adrenalin sport which gives her an opportunity to own her own voice.
Roller Derbys?
Although the sport still skates the thin line between legit competition and trashy entertainment, derby is making its second big swing back into the mainstream.
How is it played? Here’s the gist: Each team has five skaters, one of whom — the jammer — scores points. The teams play two 30-minute periods, each split into a series of jams, which are races for points. The blockers start in a pack ahead of each team’s jammer, whose job it is to lace through the pack and score points by legally passing the other team’s blockers.

What were Jack Osborne’s 5 scariest moments in the TV Series “Jack Osborne: Adrenaline Junkie 3″?
What Now?
Jack Osborne drives the Mongol Rally in a £350 car!
What does “GirlRacer” think of Jack Osborne?
“Jack Osbourne and his Adrenaline Junkies were back in town and what better sport to separate the men from the boys…Powerboat Racing with Sarah Donohue!! My phone rang and before I knew it I was off to Dubai to meet the Adrenaline Junkies and get it all set up and underway. Jack himself, Hollywood Sex Symbol Jesse Metcalf, Joanna Page from ‘Gavin & Stacey’ and good old Reggie Yates the Radio 1 DJ!
These were the celebs about to find out what real adrenaline felt like. This was no bungy jump or heli-swing. This was 120mph in a boat that on reaching optimum speed is weightless, a power-to-weight ratio that supersedes all others like it, and acceleration better than Class 1. The celebs were about to dive head first into the world of X-treme Catamaran Racing…the X-Cats! “
Bex On A Horse

Have you ever been on a horse? Do you love horse-riding? Let us know your stories… Meantime, here’s Bex’s horse-riding story, with the number of rides to be counted on one hand!
Horse Ride 1: The School Fair
My first experience on a horse was at a School Fair, where for the princely sum of 10p, we could be placed upon a horse (no need to hoik ourselves up), and be led up and down the field. I don’t remember much
more than that… aside from I keep remembering that one of my friend’s parents owned a helicopter, and for around £25 (a lot in the early 1980s), we could take a 5 minute flight over Sussex – that was awesome!
Horse Ride 2: In The Rain
Still at primary school, I was taken on holiday to Devon by my best friend’s family, where we camped out in increasingly wet weather… I remember the water coming very close! One day, we decided that we would
go horse-riding on the moors, and I still remember that my horse was called Coffee, that it seemed to want to stop and eat at every conceivable moment, and that it was a nice gentle plod, peering at the
scenery from under my raincoat!
Horse Ride 3: Taking a Tumble
So, onto 2008, I’m on my round-the-world trip, and I’m determined I’m going to have another go at horse-riding, and the views in Peru look amazing! I decide I’m going whether anyone else is interested or not, but
another 4 from my group (including Rod, my hilarious tour-leader – they make all the difference!) also came along as a bit of a relaxing day, having completed the Inca Trail the day before. My horse was nowhere
near as placid as coffee, but still, happy to plod along, and I was enjoying the gorgeous scenery… but the horse-leader (sorry, anyone know the terminology?) clearly deciding my horse wasn’t going fast enough
(and I wasn’t entirely in control of the steering either), gave it a “bit of encouragement”, and off I went, pretty fast…. and with one foot working loose from the stirrup, kinda wanting to stop! One final
“encouragement” from my horse, and it went right, and I went left… although I was still attached to the horse! Thankfully, at the point we were going through marshland, so I just got a bit damp! Like they say,
straight back on the horse, and the rest of the journey was fairly uneventful and enjoyable!
Horse Ride 4: Beware the Jaguar
A couple of weeks later, having decided that I had “done” horse-riding, I changed my mind when everyone else from the group decided they were going horse-riding in the Pantanal… There wasn’t a
lot else to do at the rest aside from chill-out in the hammocks, and I’m not too good at sitting still, so off I went! The horses all seemed to be nice-natured, and fortunately fairly long-legged, as shortly
after setting off we started ploughing through water, riding from mini-island to mini-island! Having seen a number of crocodiles (apparently Caymens, completely harmless!), and knowing that the Pantanal is famous for Piranhas, all slightly nerve-wracking – and when the sun/lack of water hit and I nearly fell off my horse again I was truly loving it, as you can tell! Great horse-leader this time, although very insistent that I try and resurrect the Portuguese I had learnt in 1994! As we rode across one of the mini-islands, the horses
started to twitch, and the leader, listening intently, declared that a couple of Jaguars were a little too close for comfort and therefore it was time to head home! Actually quite an enjoyable ride, with that added burst of adrenalin….

Cheese Rolling

Both Yaz and Bex have labelled Cheese Rolling as the craziest sport they can think of, so what does it really involve? Here’s a video from the 2009 competition (and why is that man wearing a THONG?!)… just look at the constant waves of people throwing themselves down an almost vertical hill: The slope has a gradient that is in places 1-in-2 and in others 1-in-1, its surface is very rough and uneven and it is almost impossible to remain on foot for the descent!
The event has run for over 200 years, and even merits its own Wikipedia entry (there’s fame for you), which notes a number of TV programmes which have featured the event, and brought it to it’s current heights of fame. If you’re planning on entering for 2010, start thinking about it now, as the next event is Monday 31st May 2010 – First race 12:00 Midday.

Name: Yaz El Hakim
Place of Birth: Truro, Cornwall
Now Lives: Southampton, Hampshire
When I’m not having a SFDO, I will be found earning pennies as: Director of Learning and Teaching at the University of Winchester (teaching Sport Psychology), setting up www.superfundaysout.com, or at home with my (very patient) family.
Sum up a ‘Super Fun Day Out’ in 10 words: Fun, Smiling, Fresh, Adrenalin, Community, Service, Helping, Excitement, Experience-based (can that count as 1?), Awesome
The most ‘Super Fun Day Out’ you’ve ever had: I did a sponsored parachute jump (static line for anyone who has also done one). It was a Super Fun Day Out but scary as hell because I very nearly thought my parachute hadn’t opened and moved my hands on to the cut away (opens the reserve chute) just to look up before I did and see a glorious open chute above (serious relief) and loved the ride down from there!!
Earliest Memory of a SFDO: I did a camel ride in Africa when I was very young which was fun at the time. But I guess my first one was aged 7 on an assault course in Cornwall. It was set up by the army (I think) at a time when Health and Safety did not rule the world and 7 year olds could hold on to handles with leather straps around their wrists and fly down a 40ft zip wire! Left me smiling for ages.
Craziest Sport You’ve Ever Tried: Only tried Horse Riding once and I know its not that crazy but sitting on the back of something that you do not have full control over, scared the living daylights out of me (although my wife said I hid the fear quite well – the horse knew if you ask me!)
Next adrenalin activity you plan on trying: Hovercrafting at Adrenalin Quarry (hopefully on my Birthday in August). In the same week I also intend to Surf for a couple of days and also do the UK’s Longest Zip Wire also at AQ.
Highest Height (excluding regular flights): 4,000 feet parachute jump
Deepest Depth: Around 5m caving
Longest Distance: Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award The Peak District (76ish miles in 3 days hiking)…beautiful rain for 2.5 days!
Favourite Extreme Sport: It would be a toss up between three, Paintball, Snowboarding (no waiting for waves) and surfing (when you catch a good one – it feels awesome)
Wackiest Sport You’ve Ever Heard of: Cheese Rolling (for at least the past 200 years) – Agree with Bex, looks fun but very painful
Why you are involved in SFDO: I have always wanted to have my own business (then being a workaholic has real benefits) and have always loved helping people and doing fun things. This idea had many attractions within it and after positive conversations with some activity providers and two hard working colleagues (now partners), I thought ‘Lets do it!’ So I am involved, in order to provide a helping hand to anyone wanting to find out where an SFDO is and how to contact them (as well as joining a community of others who are also interested). Whilst, helping the businesses to get really cheap national advertising as small businesses don’t have the budgets of national businesses to market themselves on that scale.
Sum up your ideal day: ‘Love Life… Live It’: Sunrise –Hot air balloon ride to watch the sunrise then skydive down to a snow capped mountain peak (with snowboard attached ready to release at the top), board all the way down. Then grab the paraglide waiting to take me from the end of the snow down the rest of the way to the coast (shooting some pals with a paintball gun – acting as an airborne target myself). Land on the beach and grab the handle at the seas edge to enjoy a little wakeboarding for a bit. Midday – press a button on my snowboard and it transforms into a surfboard (spend rest of day with friends on the beach and surfing. Having a BBQ watching Sunset and then sit around the fire playing games and chatting with drinks followed by a good nights sleep (under the stars would be best but a big bed could be very tempting).
That sounds awesome!!!
How I like to challenge myself: I constantly try to challenge myself because they are the times in life that I am most alive and love life the most.
Extreme Sports Film: Either Point Break or Drop Zone
P.S. Never ever watch Frostbite!!!! – If you do let me know how far in you got before switching off – I managed it all as a dare but I will never get that 90 minutes back!!!
Adrenalin sports I have tried include: Skydiving, ZipWire, Archery, Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Assault Course, Camping, Horse Riding, Surfing, Hiking, Cycling, Skiing, Motor Racing, Sea-Fishing, Kayaking, Canoeing, Coasteering, Jet-Ski, Waterskiing, Windsurfing, Sailing, Body Boarding, Water fun parks, Theme Parks, Snorkeling, Air-Rifle, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Off-Roading, Tractor Driving (from Cornwall), Paintballing, Laser Quest, Quad Biking, Golf, Camel Riding, White Water Rafting, Snowboarding and Mountain Biking.
NOTE: awaiting photo.
