Extreme Sports in Iceland

Icelandair are promoting Iceland as a destination for extreme sports… looks pretty good to me! If you’re planning to stay in the UK, check out the options for good deals for extreme sports in the UK!

Paintballing Explained

Always good to have a nice simple explanation, but if you want to undertake the real thing, check SFDO’s list of over 300 providers.

Some unusual ingredients…

Take one crane, some kind of board, a parachute, and someone slightly mad, and you get the above!! Want to find something a little closer to home, and maybe a little less dangerous: check out SFDO’s UK activities.

Hungarian priest gets on skateboard to connect

A Hungarian Catholic priest who spreads God’s word from a skateboard has become an internet sensation

“A video of the Reverend Zoltan Lendvai, 45, in action has attracted almost 170,000 hits on YouTube.

The video, Funny Priest Skateboarding, shows Rev Lendvai, clad in full clerical garb, displaying his moves.

It is not clear whether the reverend has mastered the nose-grind or the kick-flip, but his skills have helped attract young people to his church.

Rev Lendvai, whose first board bore the papal coat of arms, believes skateboarding can pave the way to God for young people.

He says his distinctive method of spreading the word on wheels is inspired by Saint John Bosco. The 19th century Italian priest and teacher dedicated his life to improving the lot of poor young people, using games as part of their education.”

Weight Lifting… or the Right Cheese?

It’s not even real cheese, but what you can do with a bit of imagination… and plenty of time!

Mountain Bike Stack-ups!

So, do you just laugh at these people as they crash their way down the hill… or do you have a go yourself, and prove that it can be done!

Whiteair 2010: Earlybird Tickets

White Air was founded in 1997 by extreme sportsman Nigel Howell. Starting as a wind and surf-based event due to the attraction of the UK’s superb beaches, it has rapidly expanded and now is the most prestigious international festival on the calendar involving some 40 sports on water, land, beach and in the air – combined with arts, music fringes, and extensive entertainment including the awesome Live Stage which features 2 huge nights of music on the beach front with top level groups each year. Event held in Brighton, West Sussex.

Watch the video from last year, and take the opportunity to sign up for an Early Bird ticket for 2010 (if the dates are anything like last year, expecting weekend of 18/19 September):

She seemed unaware of the technical malfunction however, despite the amusement of one of the officials, who was filmed laughing moments after the accident.”

Wow: Dolphin Stampede

“Never work with children and animals”, isn’t that what they say. Well, I guess many of those who are into “extreme” sports would ignore such information – and these guys – albeit unexpected, have pulled the jackpot with these dolphins! Bex has swum with 3 wild dolphins, but never a HUGE pod like this! Be amazed!

A Human Trebuchet

Thanks to Wikipedia: “A “trebuchet” A trebuchet or trebucket is a siege engine that was employed in the Middle Ages either to smash masonry walls or to throw projectiles over them. It is sometimes called a “counterweight trebuchet” or “counterpoise trebuchet” in order to distinguish it from an earlier weapon that has come to be called the “traction trebuchet”, the original version with pulling men instead of a counterweight.”

Extreme Shepherding

Do I need to say anything about this video? One of my friends highlighted it on Facebook, and thought… adrenalin sports come in many forms!

Jenna Downing

“IT says everything about Jenna Downing’s chosen sport that she can be instantly recognisable in America but hardly given a second glance in this country. It’s even more ironic when you consider that she’s a World Champion … although few people in South Yorkshire would be aware of that, nor have any real idea of what her sport is all about. Welcome to the all-action roller blading world of Extreme Inline Skating where tricks, stunts and spins on ramps are commonplace.” …

“”Extreme sports are very popular in America, so, with TV appearances and everything some people, particularly teenagers and children tend to know who I am. They ask for my autograph and have their picture taken with me but it’s nothing like on the scale of footballers in this country,” added Jenna. In this country, however, it’s much more a case of spreading the word about her sport and highlighting her projects with Sport England and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, both of which involve working with young people.”

Extreme Sports in Hawaii

Extreme sports in Hawaii (see their YouTube channel), including surf-jetskiing… what more needs to be said!

Skiing in the Streets of San Francisco

I am loving this advert from Audi A4… not too much of a car in sight! Awesomely clever advert, with a skier zooming through the streets of San Francisco, kicking up gravel rather than powder… wonder if anything like that would ever be possible for real!

WhiteAir 09

We missed WhiteAir09 on Brighton Beach last weekend – looks awesome …. did you make it? What did you think of it? Is there one planned for 2010, because I’d quite like to go!
